John (Pope elect)
Also known as: John, the deacon · Family: Roman Church · Role: Pope elect · First appears: Book II · Chap. XIX
In c. 627, John, the deacon and Pope elect, who succeeded Severinus, successor to Honorius, sent letters to Tomianus, Columbanus, Cromanus (bishop), Dinnaus, Baithanus, Cromanus (priest), Ernianus, Laistranus, Scellanus, Segenus, Saranus, and Hilarus, with John (chief of the notaries) and John (servant of God) also named in the epistle. He was “being yet but Pope elect” when he wrote to correct the Scots’ observance of Easter, showing that Easter Sunday falls between the fifteenth and twenty-first days of the moon, as approved by the Council of Nicaea.
In the same letter, John admonished them to guard against and reject the Pelagian heresy, because he had been informed that it was again springing up among them.
