Thomas Kyriell

Also known as: Thomas Kiriel / Thomas Kiriell / sir Thomas Kiriell · Family: England · Role: captain · First appears: Henry VI 20

Thomas Kyriell was an English captain who served John of Lancaster, Duke of Bedford and fought alongside Robert Willoughby, Lord Willoughby. Around 1433 at Laonnois, the two defeated the French forces and left many dead and prisoners. He later rode with Matthew Gough toward Saint-Denis, where they fought Jean de Dunois, Jean de Lohéac, and Jean de Bueil.

Around 1437, Thomas joined John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury and Thomas de Scales, Baron Scales in a night movement from Rouen to Rise, where they defeated the French and captured Alain Geron and Louis de Bailleul. He also served Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, who sent him with other officers and an army to rescue their fellows.

In 1450, Henry VI sent Thomas to Normandy with 1,500 men. He helped recapture Lisieux and Valognes, but at Formigny Arthur de Bretagne, Earl of Richmond defeated the English and took Thomas prisoner. Around 1461 at Saint Albans, Thomas stayed with Henry VI on the king’s assurance rather than fleeing, but was beheaded when the queen departed.
