Megareus

Family: Bœotians · Role: warrior and king of Megara · First appears: Book 1 · Chapter 39

Megareus, son of Poseidon, lived at Onchestus and went with an army of Bœotians to aid Nisus in his war against Minos. He fell in battle and was buried there; the city formerly called Nisa was renamed Megara after him. He had married Iphinoe, daughter of Nisus, and “succeeded Nisus they say in the kingdom.”

At Megara, the city was captured during Nisus’s reign, followed by a revolution and Megareus’s succession. His children included Timalcus and Euippus; Alcathous was his son-in-law, and Euæchma, daughter of Megareus, married Alcathous.
