Theodorus
Family: Samos · Role: sculptor · First appears: Book 8 · Chapter 14
Theodorus, a Samian sculptor and son of Telecles, became one of the first makers of cast-brass statues alongside Rhœcus. As the account puts it, “the first who fused and made statues of cast brass were Rhœcus the son of Philæus and Theodorus the son of Telecles both of Samos.”
His work also included an emerald seal frequently worn and prized by Polycrates, tyrant of Samos. A separate account names a Theodorus as the father of Herophile (second), describing him as a local shepherd.
