Beorn

Also known as: Beorn the earl / Earl Beorn · Role: earl · First appears: A.D. 1046–1047

In 1046, Beorn, an earl and the nephew of King Knute, was seized by Earl Sweyne’s men and taken by ship to Exmouth, where Sweyne’s party slew him. In 1049, Sweyne bound Beorn at Bosham and took him by ship; at Dartmouth, his men slew him and buried him deep.

Afterwards, Harold son of Godwin, Beorn’s cousin, recovered his body and buried him at Winchester with King Knute. Beorn was also Earl Sweyne’s cousin, and in 1049 he had gone with Earl Godwin from Sandwich to Pevensey.
