The Prophets

Ahaz

Family: Judah · Role: king · First appears: Isaiah 7

In Isaiah 7, Ahaz, king of Judah and son of Jotham, faced Rezin of Syria and Pekah of Israel, who took counsel against him and went to war against Jerusalem. At the upper pool, God sent Isaiah and Shearjashub to meet him and declared that the hostile plan against Judah would fail: “It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.”

God commanded Ahaz to ask for a sign, but Ahaz refused, saying, “I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.” God then announced through the judgment associated with Isaiah that unprecedented days would come upon Ahaz, his people, and his father’s house through Assyria.
