Sir Godfrey de Harcourt
Family: England · Role: adviser · First appears: Book 1, Chapter 46, part 2/2
In Book 1, Chapter 46, Sir Godfrey de Harcourt was received by King Edward, who called him cousin, listened to his counsel, and granted him an estate in England. By Chapter 47, he and Earl of Warwick had been appointed marshals of the army.
At Caen in Chapter 49, Sir Godfrey urged King Edward to curb his anger, then rode through the town proclaiming that its inhabitants must not be harmed and the town must not be burned. In Chapter 50 he commanded the vanguard; in Chapter 53 he was placed in the battalion led by Prince of Wales. At the battle in Chapter 55, he tried to save his brother after learning that his brother’s banner was fighting against him, but arrived too late; his nephew, Earl of Aumarle, was also left dead on the field.
